Architecture, the word itself, is synonymous with the art and science of a physical structure or building.
Architecture is not only serving the functional aspect of a built structure, but fills the senses with delight. It inspires a person with enjoyment of visual and aesthetical ques, lifting one spirits and stimulating our senses.
Architecture is everywhere in every structure or building. Be it a home, office, school, office building or hospital any structure we see is architecture.
Architecture began, said the German Architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, (1886-1969) when two bricks were put together well. This may sound simplistic, and although he was right, what he meant was that architecture is the self- conscious act of building. Not just building with common sense, but with artistry, too.
These structures clustered in close proximity create neighbourhoods, towns and cities and are designed in the best way possible to provide for the specific framework for which people use them

In essence this is why, urban sprawl takes place and larger clusters of society are formed necessitating a variety of buildings, public space and landscape elements to create a harmonious environment.
In a wider context, architecture is inclusive of the total built environment, which incorporates the town planning, urban design, landscape architecture and to the smaller elements such as street furniture and internal décor.
What we note is that architecture is relevant to a mathematical and scientific equilibrium where rhythm, balance and symmetry play an important role. However, it’s the holistically creative manipulation of form, space, area, volume, textures, and shadows of material treatment that define architecture.
It’s interesting to note, when we look at order, we think back to the classical architecture of ancient Greece for example. A classical column arrangement, including the base, shaft, and capital.
Ancient Greece is indeed the cradle of Western architecture as the elements of Greek architecture are the building blocks of the western world. Albeit highly familiar, Greek architecture retains its power, presence, and gallant beauty for more than 2500 years on from its origin.
This is very evident in Neo-classical architecture throughout the world, particularly to the Western governmental and state buildings, with symmetrical floor plans, pediments, and columns. A status influenced by Greek and Roman architecture, is still noted as a form of civil and democratic reference in its stance today.

Ideally architecture needs to age well and adapt to changes in environmental and social behaviour or needs. Responding to flexibility to accommodate various uses should the need arise.
Building should preferably be sustainable in treatment, materials, energy consumption and consideration to the environement without being detrimently in the space it finds itself.
I would describe architecture, as a concept that takes imagination, creativity, and the ability to order ideas and communicate them clearly. It is the creativity to understand human behaviour and the habitat in which we find ourselves, with a strong ability for problem solving skills.
At its plainest and most basic, architecture is the designing of buildings, groups of buildings and ergonomics of this space.
However, the fundamental point is that Architecture goes well beyond just the drawing of plans.
Based on historical influence and architectural guidance, we use this as our subconscious motivation to formulate our evolution in architecture.
Architecture is influenced to many aspects, examples such as site, location, budget, climate orientation and social stances

As an architect, I aspire to never sacrifice good for the perfect. Whether I design a building that is very large or a relatively small structure or space, equally I design each with passion.
As I always reiterate, Architecture is not just about the size of space, its about the space itself. Personal satisfaction comes from creating a building that contributes to its environment, surroundings and the people utilizing the building.
As an architect, I consider the environment, social norms, demographics, and financial status when designing of buildings, this contributes to the creation of functional, efficient, and integrated social development. It is arguably the different values, for every community that utilizes the structure for everyday life. Ultimately the objective is benefiting society who use this space, through architecture as a manifestation of who we are as human.
